Whether you're a beginner who just wants to get some use out of a neglected sewing machine, or an experienced dressmaker wanting to make your own patterns we have classes for you.  We run both structured, taught courses and social sewing evenings where you can bring along your own project. 

One-Off Workshops

We also have a changing series of one-off workshops where you can learn some dressmaking skills and go home with a custom piece for you or someone else in your life.

Bring and Sew Social

Do you love sewing, but never find the time to get stuck into it at home? Are you looking to build your skills in a supportive environment? Do you just want to sew in the company of others?

Come along to Creative Space and enjoy three blissful hours of uninterrupted sewing, working on a project of your choice. Overlocker and sewing machines available. £15/£10.

Free Machine Embroidery

Learn the art of free machine embroidery with Julie Heaton, MA RCA.

In a day long workshop Julie will show you how to use your sewing machine as a creative tool for drawing. Offering insights and techniques that Julie uses in her practice, you will learn how to set up your sewing machine, choose fabrics and threads and create a design that can be used for the experimental and fun process.

The class will inclusive; whilst process will be taught, you will be able to work at your own pace in a creative environment. £75

Batik Workshop - Make a Silk Scarf

Create patterned silk fabrics using hot wax and liquid paints.

Batik is the traditional technique of applying melted wax to a fabric base and adding colour, repeating the process to build up an intricate pattern, before removing the wax to reveal the finished design.

Using delicate silk as a base, you will learn to: Apply silk paint evenly, print abstract patterns using wax, layer colours and patterns to create a unique design

You will make a practice piece, plus a silk scarf that you can wear or use in a sewing project. £65

Bag Making for Beginners
In this three hour beginner bag making sewing class you’ll make a beautiful cotton shoulder bag complete with lining and pockets to take home after. You’ll have the choice of two different fabrics to make your tote bag with and it will be matched with a waterproof wax canvas, cotton lining and strong carry handles.

You’ll be given all the materials ready-cut with detailed instructions on how to sew your tote bag. Lauren will guide you through the whole process, showing you how to thread and use the machine, and construct your bag and give you plenty of tips and tricks on sewing techniques for you to use in future projects.

Sewing machines and accessories will be provided, but you can bring your own if you prefer. £50

Sew your own Washbag

In this three hour experience you’ll learn how to make a beautiful and functional Japanese design wax canvas washbag, complete with outer pockets, waterproof lining and a zip closure. Once you’ve completed the workshop you’ll be able to take your wash bag home to use (or gift to a lucky loved one!).  All sewing machines, fabric, interfacing, zippers and lining fabric will be provided, along with a variety of thread colours. You are also welcome to bring your own outer fabric if you prefer to make your washbag truly unique to you!​ £50.

Japanese Cross Back Apron Sewing Workshop

Improve your dressmaking skills with this Japanese cross back apron sewing workshop at Creative Space, Bristol. 

In this full day workshop, Lauren will expertly guide you through the process of creating your very own beautiful Japanese apron. Learn how to cut out a pattern from your own fabric along with sewing a variety of seams and finishings.

Sewing machines and accessories will be provided, however you are also welcome to bring your own, please advise on booking. £75
