Clothes alteration workshop

We all know what it’s like to purchase an item of clothing that doesn’t quite fit or an old favourite where the seam is coming apart, or you love the fabric but don’t like the style? This workshop will help you bring your wardrobe back to life. Within the 3 hours and depending on the project, you should go home with 2-3 altered, repurposed items. We have a supply of fabric, buttons and thread for alterations, or you may wish to bring your own if you have a particular idea/colour etc. You can also bring your machine or hire one of ours for an additional £5 if you don't have your own. Beginners hand and machine sewing is required for this workshop. £40

zero waste shirt/jacket
3 week course

In this three week dressmaking course you will use a technique and instructions developed by Birgita Helmersson to create your own zero waste shirt or jacket. Zero waste uses a whole piece of fabric so that nothing is wasted. This is a unique "paperless" method, meaning you can eliminate both fabric and paper waste from your sewing projects.
Experience of sewing and using a sewing machine is required for this course, plus the purchase of the pattern, fabric and thread. £90

Visible mending, darning & embroidery

Discover visible mending, a technique that highlights a mend with darning and embroidery using contrasting colours to show the beauty of an imperfection. You may have moth holes in jumpers, holes in socks or a stain that will not wash out, or you may wish to refresh an item with some stitch and colour. You will be guided through the process of visible mending, darning and embroidery which will include shashiko, a Japanese sewing technique, we may also use patches.
You will then be able to create truly beautiful pieces and bring your beloved item back to life. All equipment and materials are supplied. This is a hand sewing workshop, a small amount of hand sewing experience is necessary. £40
