Description

Join us at the studio for an intermediate dressmaking course to learn the art of shirt making. During the course you’ll be making a classic Over Shirt – a relaxed fit worker wear style jacket with dropped shoulders and a cropped length which makes an incredibly useful wardrobe layer. Over four evening classes you’ll master the fundamental techniques of shirt making. Construction techniques you’ll learn are run & fell and French seams, intricate plackets, cuffs, inserting sleeves, classic collar & collar stand, patch pockets, double yoke and buttonholes, plus lots of tips for achieving a professionally finished garment which will become a treasured item for years to come. This is an intermediate or ambitious beginner project so basic skills and confidence using a sewing machine is essential and previous dressmaking experience is desired. If you’d love to elevate your skills and feel inspired for future clothes making projects then this course will give you the knowledge and confidence you need, all taught in a relaxed, supportive and fun environment. Sewing pattern, instructions and interfacing are included in the price of the course. You will be required to bring your own fabric, matching thread and buttons. Recommended fabrics are denim, twill, canvas, corduroy, needlecord, light woollen weave, flannel, brushed cotton or lighter fabrics like cotton poplin/lawn and linen. You will also need 8 x medium buttons (around 1.5cm), 2 x smaller buttons (for the plackets). More information regarding fabric quantity will be emailed to you on booking. This workshop runs from 6pm-9:30pm over 4 consecutive weeks. Maximum 6 students each with separate work benches.
