Course description

Learn how to make your own glass mosaic panel at our studio in Bristol. You will be using scrap glass for this workshop, working glass-on-glass so that your panel really catches the light. The glass mosaic will be set in a picture frame so it can then be hung or stood in front of a window to show off it's magnificent colours. There will be Mandala templates to pick from on the day or you can prepare a design you would like to do beforehand. The internal size of the picture frame is 20cm x 20cm square, so if you would like to create your own design please print or draw it out to that size. This workshop will show you the basic skills involved in glass mosaic. You will learn how to cut glass using mosaic cutters and glass cutters. You will consider colour combinations and patterns then finally you will be shown how to grout your panel. This is a beginners course held in a learner friendly environment. All materials and use of tools are included. Maximum of 7 students. Minimum age to attend is 16. Tea and coffee is included during the day but please bring your own lunch or pick something up from the local High Street 3 minute walk away. There is ample free parking in the streets outside and around the venue. Essential Info: Please wear closed-toed shoes, tie back long hair and wear clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty or bring an apron. About the teacher: April Pebble-Owens is a maker of Contemporary Stained and Fused Glass Artworks. Her work is inspired by the natural world, the animal kingdom, the mystical and mythical. She teaches at her workshop at Rock Farm in Shepton Mallet and is also a Stained Glass Conservator at Holywell Glass in Wells. Her approach to learning is to encourage and problem solve. Being dyslexic herself she understands that repetition and clear instructions are important to help learners get the most from her workshops. Her main aim is for her students to have fun, gain some confidence in a craft and leave with something uniquely beautiful.
