Course description

Come and learn the traditional craft of Stained Glass and make your own panel or decorative mirror from scratch. This is a hands-on course, covering all processes including glass cutting, leading, soldering, cementing and polishing your piece. Choose from a large range of templates that will enable you to get a good grounding in the core skills, whilst also enabling you to finish your piece during the day ready to take home and show off! Learn about different types of glass and choose from a wide range of colours and textures to suit your style. All materials and use of tools are included. Maximum of 6 students. Minimum age to attend is 16. Please note, this day course is at our new venue in STAPLE HILL. Tea and coffee is included during the day but please bring your own lunch or pick something up from the local High Street 3 minute walk away. There is ample free parking in the streets outside and around the venue. Essential Info: Please wear closed-toed shoes and tie back long hair. Please wear clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty or bring an apron. Due to the use of lead it is recommended that pregnant women do not attend. Use of a soldering flux derived from animal fat is necessary on this course, so regrettably it is not vegan. About the teacher: Catherine Dunstan is an award-winning glass artist based here in Staple Hill. Catherine specialises in pattern-making in glass, creating sculpture and wall art featuring 3D kaleidoscopic patterns. She graduated with an MA in Glass (Distinction) from the University for the Creative Arts in 2021, with her graduate work receiving a commendation from the Contemporary Glass Society. She was shortlisted for New Ashgate Gallery’s Rising Stars Prize 2021 and was awarded funding by QEST in 2023 to pursue further training. Catherine continues to exhibit and teach both nationally and internationally and takes great joy in sharing her enthusiasm for glass with her students. She is the author of Creative and Professional Development for Glass Artists.
