Course description

An opportunity to learn a new skill from scratch to make a selection of beautiful Christmas decorations! Whether you want to use your teacher's templates or design your own with guidance, you will choose from a beautiful selection of colourful glass and learn the copper-foiling technique; a modern stained glass construction process. You can expect to make 3 - 6 decorations, depending on your speed of making and complexity of your designs. This workshop utilises the full process from start to finish, and you will receive all of the necessary information to continue copper-foiling with confidence should you wish to pursue it further. All materials and use of tools are included. Maximum of 6 students. Minimum age to attend is 16. Tea and coffee is included during the day but please bring your own lunch or pick something up from the local High Street 3 minute walk away. There is ample free parking in the streets outside and around the venue. Essential Info: Please wear closed-toed shoes and tie back long hair. Please wear clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty or bring an apron. Due to the use of lead it is recommended that pregnant women do not attend. About the teacher: Catherine Dunstan is an award-winning glass artist based here in Staple Hill. Catherine specialises in pattern-making in glass, creating sculpture and wall art featuring 3D kaleidoscopic patterns. She graduated with an MA in Glass (Distinction) from the University for the Creative Arts in 2021, with her graduate work receiving a commendation from the Contemporary Glass Society. She was shortlisted for New Ashgate Gallery’s Rising Stars Prize 2021 and was awarded funding by QEST in 2023 to pursue further training. Catherine continues to exhibit and teach both nationally and internationally and takes great joy in sharing her enthusiasm for glass with her students. She is the author of Creative and Professional Development for Glass Artists.
